Lotus Temple | Kamal Mandir
Lotus Temple was built in 1986 and it is located near Nehru Place (Kalkaji Mandir) in Delhi. White marble stones have been used to build the lotus temple. This stone was sourced from Greece, which was famous for its unique variety and beauty. Built in the shape of lotus flower, this building has a total of 27 petals, which are made in the shape of 3 and 9. The temple has a total of 9 gates which is about 40 meters. Below the main dome of the temple is a large hall in which 2400 people can pray together. The temple is about 40 meters long. 9 ponds have been built around it, which keep the hall of the temple cool and also enhance its beauty.
The Kamal temple took about ten years to be built and was completed in 1986. The temple was inaugurated on 24 December 1986 but it was opened to the general public on 1 January 1987.
This temple is also called Bahai Upasana Mandir. It is made just like a lotus flower. It is famous by the name of the temple but no god is worshiped here nor any religious rituals are performed.
Inspired by the Bahá'à scriptures, the monument does not contain any images or images of God! According to the Bahá'à ideology, the House of Worship should be a gathering place where people of any religion can worship God without any restriction. So, a choir, a musical instrument and a religious sermon are given. One can just sit in peace and meditate on one's heart.
