Char Minar was built in 1591, as a memorial and mosque in Hyderabad, Telangana, India. It is globally known as the symbol of Hyderabad and is one of the most recognized structures in India.



The Char Minar is one of the most unique ancient structures selected in the country and the story of its construction is very interesting. This structure with four towers was built in 1591 by Muhammad Quli Qutb Shah, the fifth Nizam of the Qutb Shahi empire, after moving his capital from Golconda to Hyderabad.Although there are many myths behind its creation, it is still believed that this structure was built in the joy of eradication of cholera from the city. During that time, outbreak of cholera was more in most places of the city. Muhammad Quli Qutb Shah prayed to free the city from cholera, and vowed to build a mosque.


For the construction of the city of Hyderabad and the Char Minar, Persian eminent architecture was called. It was constructed as a mosque and madrasa. Its architectural style was a mixture of Indo-Islamic, in which elements of Persian architecture are also seen in some places.


Char Minar is a large and impressive structure with four minarets. The structure of the four towers is square, each side is 20 meters long. The Char Minar has a door in every direction, which opens in different markets. It has a 56 m (about 184 ft) high tower in each corner, which has 2 balconies.The upper part of each minaret has a bulbous dome design, like a pointed leaf, as if someone has crowned the minaret. Like the Taj Mahal, these towers are its main structure in the Char Minar. There are 149 curved steps to the top. It is also known for the structure and decoration of different balconies and towers.


Interesting facts about Char Minar : -

Each arc of the Char Minar was built in 1889, the Char Minar was built according to the Sajia architectural style, people say it was built due to a secret promise of Mohammed Quli Qutb, there are many tunnels between Char Minar and Golconda, But nobody's location is known to anyone.
