The Red Fort
Red Fort is a world famous fort built by Mughal emperor Shah Jahan. Construction of this fort started in 1639, which continued till 1648. However, additional work of the fort was started in the middle of the 19th century. The Red Fort was designed by architect Ustad Ahmad Lahauri, and they also built the Taj Mahal. Red Fort was completely made of red stones because of its name being Red Fort. Red Fort is currently UNESCO World Heritage Site.
There are lots of places to see in the Red Fort such as the color palace, Mumtaz Mahal, the special palace, Hammam, Shah Burj, Diwan A special, Nahar A Biswas. The workmanship made in this was done by very fine craftsmen.
The main entrance of the Red Fort (Lahauri Gate) opens on 'Chatta Chowk', which is surrounded by a covered street which is used for the home of the most talented jewelers, carpet makers, weavers and goldsmiths in Delhi. This covered road is also known as Mina Market.
Red Fort is Delhi's most famous tourist destination, which has been tempting millions of tourists every year. On this fort the Prime Minister of India addresses the people of the country on Independence Day August 15. It is also the largest monument of Delhi.
When India's independence in 1947, the British government handed over the complex to the Indian Army, since then the army's office was made here. On December 22, 2003, Indian Army removed the 56-year-old office and vacated the Red Fort and handed it over to the Tourism Department at a ceremony. At this function, Defense Minister George Fernandes said that the history of the Armed Forces is connected to the Red Fort, but now it is time to show the world one aspect of our history and heritage.
Mughal emperor Shahjahan ordered the construction of the Red Fort in 1638. About this time he started making Taj Mahal in Agra in memory of his late wife. On the Red Fort in 1739, the King of Persia was attacked by Nadir Shah and he took with him the Golden Peacock Throne, which later became the symbol of the Iranian monarchy.
